Welcome to our new series called “What Our Experts Say,” where AutoLex AI experts share their vision, expertise, and passion for technological innovation. In this first part, we had the privilege of talking with the CEO and co-founder, who discusses the history of the company, the challenges faced, and the future ambitions of our promising solution for the legal sector.

1. What is the origin of AutoLex AI? What prompted you to create this innovative solution for the legal sector?

“AutoLex AI was born from a double observation: on the one hand, the volume of legal data is constantly growing, making it difficult to analyze and quickly find relevant information. On the other hand, traditional tools struggle to meet the efficiency expectations of legal professionals (such as CLMs, for example). In 2016, our team launched a consulting firm focused on digital transformation and natural language processing (NLP). This experience revealed huge potential for intelligent automation in the legal sector. In 2023, we transformed this expertise into a SaaS solution: AutoLex AI.”

2. In a nutshell, what is the main problem that AutoLex AI seeks to solve for legal professionals?

“AutoLex allows you toAutomate time-consuming legal tasks such as contract review and analysis. Our solution helps identify inconsistencies, missing or risky clauses, and thus improves compliance while significantly reducing human errors. It works like a virtual legal assistant, freeing up professionals for more strategic tasks.”

3. Generative AI is still relatively new in this sector. What are the main use cases that it can cover today?

“The main use cases of AutoLex AI include:
  • Automatic contract review : Identification of discrepancies or unfavorable clauses.
  • Contract summary : Excerpt key points for quick understanding.
  • Natural language query : Direct search in documents with contextual questions.
  • Generating and amending clauses : Proposals aligned with the interests of the user.
  • Due diligence and legal audit : Massive and automated analysis of contractual bases.”

4. How do you ensure the reliability and confidentiality of data in an area as sensitive as the law?

“Security and confidentiality are at the heart of AutoLex's priorities, especially for the processing of sensitive legal documents. Hosted on Microsoft Azure, a platform renowned for its reliability and advanced security features, AutoLex respects strict standards such as the RGPD and offers a geographic flexibility in choosing data centers, including in Europe. We guarantee advanced encryption protocols, secure deployment options, including on local servers, and use anonymized databases to train our models. This approach ensures compliant and secure data management, addressing concerns about confidentiality and the cross-border transfer of information.”

5. What feedback have you been getting from your users so far, and how is that feedback influencing the development of your product?

“Our users welcome the productivity gains and the ease of integrating AutoLex into their workflows. For example, legal departments note an 80% gain in the analysis and negotiation phases! Customer feedback directly influences our product roadmap, such as the addition of specific functionalities for certain legal areas or better customization of clauses. In fact, we recently published a Release note featuring several new product features that are definitely worth trying out!”

6. In your opinion, what are the main reservations or concerns of legal professionals when it comes to AI, and how do you overcome them?

“The concerns are often about reliability and loss of control. We designed AutoLex as an assistant that increases productivity without replacing human expertise. Our models are explainable and transparent, allowing users to understand and validate the recommendations provided.”

7. What challenges did you encounter when developing and deploying AutoLex AI in such a regulated sector?

“Challenges include complying with strict regulations like the AI Act and managing sensitive data. We have also invested in the explainability of our models to ensure serene adoption by users. Collaborating with legal experts has been essential in adapting AI to the specific needs of the sector.”

8. How do you see the impact of AI on legal practice in the next 5 to 10 years?

“I think that AI will profoundly transform legal practice by offering significant productivity gains and by promoting greater democratization of access to law. Cabinets will be able to refocus on strategic missions with high added value (saving time), while legal departments will benefit from a better compliance and increased efficiency in their processes. However, human intervention will remain essential to interpret, contextualize and enrich the analyses provided by AI, thus ensuring their relevance in complex and specific situations!”

9. What do you think differentiates AutoLex AI from other technological solutions available for the legal sector?

“Our areas of differentiation are clear:
  • Models trained specifically for legal uses.
  • Higher performance than standard models.
  • Optimized user experience, including collaborative contract management, custom terms, and native Word integration.”

10. To conclude, what advice would you give to a lawyer who is still hesitant to adopt an AI solution, such as AutoLex?

Start with a pilot project. For example, test the solution on repetitive or high-volume tasks, such as contract review and analysis. This approach makes it possible to concretely assess the benefits, in particular in terms of saving time, reducing errors and improving accuracy. Very quickly, you will notice the positive impact on your daily productivity. Adopting AI like AutoLex is not only optimizing current operations, it's also preparing for the future. Technology is becoming a real lever for amplifying human expertise, allowing professionals to focus on issues with high added value and to meet increasingly complex legal challenges.
